Long-term Project Co-ordinator

Will work alongside local staff members co-ordinating projects such as dance, music, drama, photography, IT training, language training, co-ordination of the youth magazine Anonimus, radio project, art...

Length of contract: 6 months+. Co-ordinators are asked to work a minimum of six months. Your contract will be reviewed at the end of the first and the third months. At the end of one month, if by mutual agreement between you and Firefly, it is decided that the job is not suitable for you, your contract will be ended with one months' notice. At the end of three months, you may decide to complete the six months, or apply to have your contract extended past six months.

Remuneration: You will be asked to raise the funds to cover your costs in Brcko; you will not be paid wages. A rough estimate of what you would need is: a one-off sum of £200 for travel costs from the UK, £200 accommodation and living costs per month, and around the costs of materials for your project. We also ask long-term volunteers and co-ordinators to contribute some funds to the running costs of Firefly in Brcko, bearing in mind shared costs of phone, rent, electricity and other bills. Firefly has no outside funding apart from what local staff and volunteers raise, so everyone is asked to contribute equally. We ask volunteers to contribute £100 for each month that they will be at the project - this sum will also cover many of the materials you might need. Firefly will aim to support you in raising these funds before you depart, you are not expected to cover them out of your own pocket. If you are under 30 years old, and live in the UK, we can apply for EVS (European Voluntary Service) funding which will cover nearly all your costs.

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting with the co-ordination of one or two projects. if these are already existing projects, you will work alongside the local staff members already co-ordinating these projects. Please state on your application form two examples of projects you would be most interested in and qualified for. You will need to devise your own timetable and plan activities.
  • Helping local staff with duties such as fundraising. Such help will always involve an element of training, as it is essential that skills brought to the project by temporary international staff are passed onto permanent local staff members. In particular, you will be asked to fundraise for some of the costs of the projects you co-ordinate. You will need to keep up to date with fundraising opportunities from within Bosnia and write proposals alongside other long-term adn local staff where appropriate.
  • Constant liaison with the Firefly office in the UK, including monthly reports and regular activity summaries.
  • As and when necessary, taking part in the preparation for and organisation of the festival and summer camps.
  • Training local staff in any skills you possess that can be passed on to the permanent local team.
  • Assisting with all day-to-day duties (such as driving) at the project, as they are needed.
  • Carrying out outreach work in surrounding DP (Displaced Persons) and refugee communities to involve all areas and encourage reconciliation between groups.
  • Development of co-operation between NGO's, GO's and IO's in the region and keeping up communications by representing the organisation at general meetings.
